What is Google Wallet? How does it work?

Google Wallet is a digital wallet on Android that gives you access to everyday essentials like flight boarding passes, cinema and other event tickets, bus tickets, brand loyalty cards, photographs of important credentials, and others.

As per the press release, Google has partnered with 20 of India’s top brands to enable the Google Wallet experience, including PVR & INOX, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels, Abhibus, Dominos, Shoppers Stop, and many others, with more partners to be added in the months to follow.

Distinct features for which we can use Google Wallet:

Tickets for the big moments: Movie nights, concerts, even flights – have your tickets at the ready for whenever you need them. Google Wallet makes them easily accessible, ensuring a smooth entry.

Boarding passes: No more frantic searches for that crumpled boarding pass. With Google Pixel phones, you can simply screenshot your pass and add it directly to your Wallet with a tap!

Loyalty cards that reward you: Ditch the overflowing physical cards. Store digital copies of your loyalty cards in Google Wallet to keep track of points and redeem rewards effortlessly.

Tickets for your daily commute: Metro rides, bus journeys – Google Wallet can hold your public transit tickets too, streamlining your daily travel.

Your work ID, on-demand: Select corporate badges can be stored in Google Wallet, allowing you to display them easily when needed.

Turn physical documents digital: Got a barcode or QR code on a document? Breathe new life into it! Create a new pass directly in your Wallet from any image containing them, be it boarding passes, luggage tags, or even parking receipts.

But wait, isn’t that what Google Pay does?

While both Google Wallet and Google Pay help manage things on your phone, they serve distinct purposes. Google Wallet focuses on storing essentials like tickets and passes, while Google Pay remains your go-to app for all things payment-related.

They work together seamlessly – Google Wallet keeps your essentials organized, and Google Pay helps you make transactions with them.
